Overview

Airspace Experience Technologies (ASX: iflyasx.com) is a startup founded in 2017 with a mission to advance mobility for the mass traveling public by repurposing automotive electric vehicle technologies, safety systems, and mass production techniques. ASX has been awarded multiple patents and DoD/State contracts for our heavy lift electric VTOL platform and AeroNet UTM product.

Our goal in developing our AeroNet advanced mobility devices and AeroNet UTM back office is to create an international practice for enhanced mobility management with a web-based Common Operation Picture (COP). This platform gives municipalities and infrastructure operators the tools to license, authenticate, monitor, and facilitate collision avoidance for connected vehicles on the ground and in the air. Our ultimate objective is to integrate automated systems at scale using international standards while improving safety, security, and efficiency of automated robotic systems within the “public square.”

We're seeking talented individuals with a passion for connected intelligent mobility to join our limited number of technical positions.

Job Description

Location: Detroit, MI (Hangar 7, Coleman A. YoungInternational Airport)‍

Type: Full-time, on-site

‍Reports to: CEO

‍Salary: $60K–$120K

‍Platform: Embedded Linux

You will make sure the EdgeNode collision avoidance systemworks correctly on real hardware, on real vehicles, every release. You own thelayer between the core collision avoidance code and the devices it runs on, andthe test infrastructure that proves each new version is safe to deploy.

This role is paired with our Software / Firmware Engineer — Drone Collision Avoidance, who builds the avoidance features and SITL simulators. They hand off validated features; you make them run, and prove them, on real vehicles.

‍

What you will do

•  Own the device-specific hardware interfaces (radios, sensors, buses, vehicle links) that the collision avoidance code depends on.

•  Hold those interfaces to the requirements andassumptions of the core codebase, and feed real-world constraints back to thealgorithm team.

•  Improve interface performance where it matters toavoidance: latency, timing, sensor rate and quality.

•  Design and run hardware test and fault-injectioncampaigns against each collision avoidance release.

•  Build test automation that shortens the path from a newcore version to a deployable firmware build.

•  Maintain the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation andverification rig.

•  Verify EdgeNode-to-vehicle integration end to end:physical connections, communication protocols, sensor performance.

‍

What you bring

•  Strong C/C++ in an embedded environment: embeddedLinux, constrained memory, real-time timing.

•  Firmware experience with radios and hardware interfaces(UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).

•  Hands-on hardware skills: soldering, bench debuggingwith a scope or logic analyzer. Having built a drone counts.

•  Working knowledge of PX4 and MAVLink.

•  A test-first mindset: you would rather build the rigthat catches a bug than chase it in the field.

‍

Nice to have

•  HIL or test automation infrastructure you built fromscratch.

•  Experience with C-V2X, LTE/5G, or other vehicle radiosystems.

•  Flight test or range-operations experience.

About ASX and this role

Airspace Experience Technologies (ASX) builds AeroNet, aUniversal Traffic Management platform for crewed aircraft, uncrewed aircraft, and ground vehicles, and the EdgeNode C-V2X onboard unit that connects them. Weare based at Hangar 7 at Coleman A. Young International Airport in Detroit, working with defense, airport, and automotive partners. EdgeNode is the hardware that puts AeroNet on the vehicle; the integration and test work in this role is what lets every release ship to partners with confidence.
